Steve Helms and his wife, Virginia, have been married for over 32 years. They have three children, one grandson and have been members of Springfield’s Second Baptist Church since 1994.
Steve is a U.S. Army veteran. He served a tour of duty in the First Gulf War with the 101st Airborne/Air Assault Division in a recon platoon. He was honorably discharged in 1996.
He has owned and operated several successful small businesses and currently owns an independent insurance agency that specializes in helping seniors. Steve is a member of the National Federation of Independent Business.
Steve has also had the honor of being elected as the Greene County Circuit Clerk and had the privilege to oversee several innovations to the courts; the introduction to the State’s Justice Information System and the move to paperless files.
Steve on the Environment - "As an advocate for urban farming, I believe we have a personal responsibility to manage our resources. I support initiatives that protect the the environment, and encourage sustainable living, without crippling economic growth."
While in office Steve Helms significantly cut his County budget and helped save hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Steve is now serving in his fourth year in the Missouri House of Representatives. As he promised from his first day in office, he has focused on the issues that matter to most – heath care and education. He is the leading reformer in the House to make healthcare more affordable and accessible for all.
Representative Helms has voted every year in office to fully fund our schools. He also votes to protect local control in education – parents, teachers, and local administration can better recognize the needs of their kids than any out-of-town bureaucracy.
Steve Helms has the right mix of experience, both in office and in the private sector, to understand the process, but also realize what we need to make Missouri’s government work better for all of us.
